The Ohio Legislative Black Caucus hosted a canvass launch at Winterfield Park on Wednesday, October 21, focusing on this year’s judicial race. Community members, fraternity brothers, elected officials and members of The Movement attended the rally and canvas launch to talk directly to Ohio voters about the importance of Ohio’s courts and the judicial candidates.

The event featured speakers Sixth District Court of Appeals Judge Myron C. Duhart and Supreme Court Justice Jennifer Brunner who are both up for reelection. Speeches in support of the cause were also given by OLBC members state Senator Paula Hicks-Hudson, state Representative Erika White, state Representative Munira Abdullahi and director of OLBC Lauren Morgan.

“We want to draw attention to our judicial races,” stated Morgan. “This is an intentional effort from the Ohio Legislative Black Caucus to elevate the judicial races because, as people of color, we understand that we go through different phases and in some of those phases, for some of us, it is the judicial system. And when we do interact with the system, we want to make sure that it’s fair and impartial, and justice is served. This is a nonpartisan judicial canvas for our candidates. We want to make sure that we stand up and we show up in every facet for them.”

The Ohio Legislative Black Caucus is the oldest legislative Black caucus in the nation, leading the fight for justice, equity, and opportunity by championing policies that uplift Black Ohioans and strengthen communities across the state. (Source: OLBC Facebook)
