The African American Male Wellness Walk

On Saturday, August 21, the ninth annual African American Male Wellness 5K Walk/Run started at the Warren AME Church at 9:30 a.m. but, as always, the walk was not the only important feature of this year’s event.

The annual event, organized by Brian Byrd, chief of the Toledo Fire and Rescue Department, is a morning filled with health screenings, vendors and music.

Attendees had the opportunity to receive the COVID vaccines – Pfizer or Johnson and Johnson, HIV screenings, blood pressure and cholesterol screenings, mammograms and dental checkups, among the many health services offered.

This year’s sponsors were Warren AME, Mercy Hospital, ProMedia, the City of Toledo, Monnettes and Firefighters Local 92.
