State Rep. Elgin Rogers Jr. (D-Toledo) last week was officially appointed and sworn in to fill the vacancy as state representative to Ohio House District 44. Rep. Rogers was elected to the 44th District in the 2022 election for the 135th General Assembly, and will finish the remainder of former Rep. Hicks-Hudson’s term before starting his own term.
“I would like to thank the wonderful people of Northwest Ohio whom I will represent for their support and encouragement. I would like to thank the members of the House of Representatives and its leadership for their support and confidence during this process. I will work diligently to listen, understand and faithfully discharge the duties of this office. Finally, thank you to my family, teachers, coaches and mentors for sharing their wisdom, resources, love and support. They are responsible for making today a reality,” said Rep. Rogers.
Rep. Rogers outlined his top priorities Wednesday, which include:
- Serving and protecting seniors, children and workers’ rights;
- Constituent services
Rep. Rogers is the former director of Education and Outreach and director of Weights and Measures for the Lucas County Auditor’s office. He also served as the executive assistant to Lucas County Commissioner Pete Gerken. He is a precinct captain, and a co-founder and past president of the African American Leadership Caucus, a Lucas County political action committee.
House District 44 includes South, Central, and East Toledo and northern portions of Wood and Ottawa counties, including Northwood, Walbridge, Genoa and Elmore.
