How does school start in Toledo? For some students, it starts with a bang. And an audience, greeters, a handshake or two, a high-five, some pom poms.
For the students at MLK Jr. Academy for Boys (now in the Jones Leadership Academy building) and those at Elle P. Stewart Academy for Girls, the welcome came on Monday, August24, from community leaders who volunteered to make the students’ first day a welcoming one.
The community leaders’ involvement at both schools won’t end on Monday for many of these students. A number of community leaders will be involved with the students during the rest of the academic year serving as mentors and hosting special events.
