Lucas County Recorder Michael Ashford is a busy man these days. The officeholder is running for re-election and, as chairman of the Lucas County Democratic Party, is trying to shepherd members of the flock to victory as well.
Ashford was elected chairman of the Party in June 2020 and appointed Recorder by the Party’s Central Committee in 2021 following the death of then-Recorder Phil Copeland.
Ashford, a former Toledo city councilman and former minority whip of the Ohio House of Representatives has been involved in virtually all aspects of local politics for the past two decades, campaigning for himself and for others, serving as a mentor to up-and-comers. He is also a former leader in the YMCA and Boys and Girls organizations.
Ashford is facing Republican John Rozic, a Waterville, OH, councilman.
