Donnetta Carter, also known throughout the Toledo community as The Social Butterfly, has built a reputation around her platform for supporting organizations and causes. Sunday September 13, her signature fundraiser event, 6th Annual Sundresses & Big Hats Party, raised support for Unruly Arts.
Unruly Arts originally formed at Toledo Botanical Garden by Joan Browne Kose and Lori Shoen provides art materials, instruction and skill-building opportunities to adult artists with disabilities. The studio structure gives artists the opportunity to create, build relationships, exhibit their work and sell it. The artists have work available for purchase in the gallery held at Toledo Botanical Gardens while the current artists are working out of the Toledo Zoo.
“At the Zoo we are all under one roof and able to serve more artists,” shared Joan about the move. A signature event of Unruly Arts is their exhibition held annually in partnership with Taylor Automotive Group. The Unruly Arts expects 20 studio artists to exhibit in this year’s show, planned to take place November 5 at Taylor Hyundai in Perrysburg.
The Taylor Automotive Family has made community philanthropy a cornerstone of its Taylor Cares program alongside community organizers such as Donnetta Carter. The Social Butterfly’s fundraiser for Unruly Arts displayed the commitment Donnetta carries to filling the needs of the community.
The Social Butterfly will continue to provide upcoming opportunities to party with the purpose for connecting and giving back. For organizations like Unruly Arts, that support helps bring greater visibility to the talents of artists with disabilities.
