On Tuesday, September 15, the Ohio Unity Coalition hosted a National Voter Registration Day Rally and Grand Opening of their new location at 1565 S. Byrne Rd. from 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM. The day featured food, music, giveaways, vendors, tours of their new location and, most importantly, an opportunity to register to vote!

The day served as more than a rally but an opportunity to register, educate, empower and elevate.

Speakers for the event included Anita Madison, Toledo coordinator for Ohio Unity; Petee Talley, CEO Ohio Unity; Tony Totty, president UAW Local 14; Linnie Willis, former executive director LMH; LaVera Scott, director Lucas County Board of Directors; Davion Williams, president, Toledo NAACP Youth Council and Pastor Marquisa Horton of Corinth Baptist Church.  Music was provided by DJ Empress and food by Big Tone Food Truck.

“The purpose of this whole event is to get our community vote -ready,” said Madison, “For individuals to come out, check their voting status, make sure their ID and their voter file match and make sure they don’t need to change their address.”  Madison also expressed the need for voters to know where their polling location is which may have changed since the last election.
