September 26 remains an important part of broader Central State – Toledo discussions; September 27 Presidential Community Presentation will continue as planned
The African American Legacy Project of Northwest Ohio (AALP) announced this week that it will reset and restructure the Central State University student workshop originally planned for Saturday, September 26, 2026.
The decision follows conversations with community voices and key individuals and is intended to create additional space for planning, coordination and broader community engagement. AALP also became aware of potential duplication with another HBCU event in Detroit, where some students, families and community members had already committed to participate.
“Our intention has never been to compete with another HBCU or another community initiative,” said Robert Smith, executive director of the African American Legacy Project of Northwest Ohio. “Our goal is to expand educational opportunities and strengthen the relationship between Central State University, Toledo, and northwest Ohio.”

Presidential Community Presentation Continues
The Presidential Community Presentation on Sunday, September 27, will continue as planned
President Kuti will share his vision for Central State University and its relationship with Toledo and northwest Ohio directly with the community.
The September 26 discussions and September 27 Presidential Community Presentation are part of an ongoing effort to establish a strong foundation for the relationship between Central State University and the Toledo and northwest Ohio community.
“We look forward to continuing to work with Central State, our community partners, students, families, educators, faith leaders, businesses, and community leaders as we build the next chapter of this relationship,” Smith said.
