Several local organizations took the opportunity during the first weekend of August to reach out to the community and celebrate the end of summer and the upcoming new school year.
United Vision Baptist Church
United Vision Baptist Church held their 13th annual Community Day on Saturday, August 1 at Wilson Park. The congregation gathered to enjoy “A Day of Hope, Health and Unity” and to make sure students were prepared for school.
Visitors were able to have health screenings, haircuts, sample the wares of various vendors and food trucks and register to vote.
Students were given free backpacks and could also have a free breakfast gift card to Chic-Fil-A.
And they could dance to the DJ inspired music, explore the bouncy houses or even get a ride on a horse!
Center of Hope Family Services, Inc
Center of Hope Family services held its Back to School Bash on Sunday afternoon in the parking lot of the home offices on Talmadge. The mid-afternoon day of fun for families and the community featured music by a DJ, bouncy houses, games, free food, vendors. Students were able to receive backpacks and other school supplies.
The rain that had poured down all morning gave way just in time as over 300 families stopped by to enjoy the community gathering.
