The IMA’s Annual Black History Month Program

“In Times Like These: An Unshakable Faith,” (Psalm 46:1-2) was the theme for this year’s Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance’s annual Black History Month Program held t The Refreshing Place on Sunday, February 22.

The annual celebration brought together a number of IMA religious leaders to deliver the word on the special occasion and also to provide “Special Recognition” to a number of distinguished area citizens.

The Refreshing Place’s Pastor Christopher Rowell opened the ceremony with greetings and introduced the Praise & Worship portion of the program.

Then Rev. John Williams read scripture; Rev. Shirley Sparks offered a prayer and the Praise Team brought another selection to the delight of the ceremony attendees.

Rev. Damon Horton delivered the Statement of Purpose, Rev. Otis Gordon presented the offering and Rev. James Willis introduced the preacher – Rev. William foster, pastor of Indiana Avenue Missionary Baptist Church, who spoke right after the Praise Team performed once again.

This year’s Special Recognition honorees were Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur, former Toledo Mayor Carty Finkbeiner, Toledo City Councilwoman Cerssandra McPherson, Judge Myron Duhart, Judge Nicole Khoury, ABC Health Care’s Mary Reed, Port Authority President Thomas Winston, Rev. Jerome Graham, the Change Academy’s Shawn Mahone, Kitchen of the Poor’s Harvey Savage, the Jewish Federation’s Stephen Rothschild and contractor Blair Johnson.

Rev. Cedric Brock, pastor of Mt. Nebo Baptist Church and president of the Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance delivered closing remarks.
