The Toledo Area Regional Transit Authority (TARTA) is kicking off Ohio Loves Transit Week (Feb. 16-20) early by offering a valentine to the people who depend on public transportation.
All TARTA fixed-route, paratransit and TARTA Flex services will be free of charge two days in the next week: Saturday, Feb. 14 and Tuesday, Feb. 17. This also includes Special Event Transportation, so the Walleye Shuttle to Saturday’s game against Cincinnati will also be free.
Ohio Loves Transit Week, which is facilitated by the Ohio Public Transportation Association, recognizes the enormous benefit to communities of the more than 60 public transit agencies across the state.
“Public investment in a mobility can change lives, and what has happened in our area in the last few years is a great example of that,” said TARTA CEO Laura Koprowski. “We are excited to make this small gesture to our own passengers as part of the celebration of Ohio Loves Transit Week, and as part of honoring our great team that connects communities every day.
“As ridership has increased in recent years, we have heard from so many people the impact having an affordable ride has on their day-to-day lives. As we celebrate our 55th anniversary, we continue to work hard to improve the reliability and efficiency of our system to benefit those who need us for another 55 years.”
Passengers can visit tarta.com/walleye for pick-up times and park-and-ride locations for the Walleye Shuttle. TARTA leadership and trustees will travel to Columbus during Ohio Loves Transit Week to meet face-to-face with state legislators and speak about the importance of public transportation and the value of properly funding transit.
