Special to The Truth
A number of veterans in the Toledo area were thanked for their service on Tuesday, November 11, Veterans Day, as the Toledo Buffalo Soldiers partnered with restaurants and volunteers to see that around 200 of the Armed Forces heroes had a satisfying meal on that day.
Each year The Toledo Buffalo Soldiers partner with local restaurants to provide meals for those veterans who are shut-ins or at rehab/senior facilities and can’t take advantage of special meal offers at those restaurants.
Hundreds of veterans find themselves in this situation each year and over 300 are served lunch or dinner meals by the Buffalo Soldiers. The yearly mission began at approximately 11 a.m. on Tuesday morning at Herman’s 507 St Clair and continued throughout the day until all meals were all delivered.
The Buffalo Soldiers were assisted by volunteers from the University of Toledo’s Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc, among others.
This year these restaurants have agreed to provide meals: Bob Evans, Ye Olde Durty Bird, Original Pancake, Spaghetti Warehouse, El Tipico, Michaels Bar and Grill, Tony Packo’s, Dino’s, Off The Rails Food Trolley, and Ohio Living Swan Creek. In addition, all meals come with good old American Apple Pie supplied by Toledo Memorial Park.
Annette Mack was at Herman’s to arrange logistics for the day.
