Two Toledo Legends Lost

We have lost two iconic trailblazers in our community this week. As a “Toledo kid” I grew up hearing these names. Hearing the voice of “Charlie Chuck” with his iconic “What’s my name? Chuck! Chuck! Chuck!” is burned into my memory. Both of my parents were TPS educators, so I often heard them speak of “Crys” as they discussed what was happening in the school system. So many times after I became Director of Toledo Excel he would greet me so warmly and offer encouragement and sage advice. Legendary men who are now ancestors. Rest in power Mr. Charles Welch Sr. and Mr. Crystal Ellis. – David Young, Toledo Excel
