On Saturday, August 12, Calvary Missionary Baptist Church and Toledo Public Schools collaborated in a community bookbag giveaway. The two organizations gave away more than 300 bookbags filled with recommended school supplies to provide each student with a jumpstart to the upcoming 2023/2024 school year.
The participating students attend three local elementary schools.
The bookbag event started at 10:00 a.m. and concluded at 2:00 p.m. In addition to the giveaway, dozens of attendees received food and refreshment; music and games were provided; volunteer coaches were on hand teaching basketball and volleyball skills and a bouncy house was also on premises.
TPS Superintendent Romules Durant, EdD, was on hand at noon to say a few words and assist in the bookbag giveaway.
