Kaptur Applauds Intel’s $20 Billion Semiconductor Investment in Ohio, Calls for Passage of CHIPS Act

Last week, Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (OH-09) released the following statement applauding Intel’s $20 billion investment in new Ohio semiconductor factories, and calling for Congressional passage of the CHIPS for America Act. Earlier this week – as Co-Chair of the bipartisan Congressional Auto Caucus – Rep. Kaptur hosted a roundtable meeting with U.S. auto industry and labor leaders focused on the need to pass the CHIPS for America Act’s $52 billion investment in domestic semiconductor production.

“The U.S. auto industry is a titan of the American economy, and semiconductor technology is the electrical charge that powers it all,” said Rep. Kaptur. “Intel’s $20 billion investment is a game-changer, and the economic boom it unleashes will ripple across the Buckeye State. This unprecedented venture will surge demand from existing suppliers, while ushering forth the innovative companies of tomorrow. Ohio’s new role as a global hub for state-of-the-art semiconductors will support the tens of thousands of auto workers across our state, and spur thousands of more good-paying jobs for Middle Class families. Now, we must build upon this exciting momentum. As the Co-Chair of the Congressional Auto Caucus, I am laser-focused on advancing the bipartisan solutions that will drive this crucial sector forward. The CHIPS for America Act is a blueprint for revitalizing American manufacturing. It is time to get it done, and secure our competitive advantage for the 21st century.”
