On Saturday, August 2, the Toledo Alumni chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Inc. partnered with Jim White Toyota to equip the young gentlemen of the Alpha Esquires with basic car care skills.

The attendees learned from the Jim White Toyota team the importance of an oil change, general operating basics, windshield wiper replacement, and other general vehicle upkeep information.  The students were also introduced to the business of car sales with the introduction of several team members such as the Service Manager Mike Johnson.

Johnson shared details of the operation such as the cost and the role of each position that gets a car from the lot to a buyer. “They are learning not only how to care for their car but the opportunities that they have,” said Greg Walker, Jim White Finance Manager and Alpha Phi Alpha member.

The Alpha Esquires program, operated by the Alpha Xi Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., is helping to shape the next generation of leaders in Toledo by mentoring young African-American boys in grades six through 12.

The Alpha Esquires program offers a focused solution to address academic challenges, reinforces confidence, purpose and a strong support network for the young men.

The Alpha Xi Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity was chartered in 1928 and remains active in mentoring, scholarship and civic engagement.
