Widows Empowered Strengthened and I, Inc. held their fifth annual Uniforms on the Runway at The Pinnacle in honor of the Director Idell Watson’s late husband, Wesley J. Watson.
A former officer with the Toledo Police Department, the unexpected loss of Wesley Watson led to developing community support for widows and their families during such a crisis.
The annual fundraiser supports the group’s ongoing activities with members of the Toledo Police, Fire & Rescue and Lucas County Sheriff’s departments coming together to strut down the runway in styled selections.
The energy was led by the emcee Valerie Walston, ThD, and styles from Dilllard’s manager, Brianna Husted. The evening featured tailored attire, a custom service available now through Dillard’s, bringing the servicemen and women out of uniform into starlit behavior.
The models were accompanied this year by their children as important benefactors to the cause. Guests were reminded that the loss of service men and women does not just impact the spouse but the entire family which the community of Widows Empowered also supports with their resources.
Supporter Jera Stewart shared her own recollection of the impact during the evening stating “the widows were there to help me carry the weight.”
