Dictionaries define the word, ‘prom’ as a formal occasion for high school students. In that same spirit, the local school district and local senior advocacy agency collaborated this past month to sponsor a Senior Prom.

The Area Office on Aging and Toledo Public Schools joined forces and resources to promote a Senior Prom, called ‘A Red Carpet Evening,’ on Friday, April 19 from 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. The gathering was held at The Premier on Heatherdowns and featured fine dining, live music, photo booth and dancing.

“We started building relationships with the seniors in our community back in 2013-2014,” said TPS Superintendent Romules Durant, EdD. “This senior prom was sold out in weeks. It is great to see so many of them enjoying themselves and encouraged by the partnership with the Area Office on Aging.”

The sold-out event was filled with seniors dressed in various formal attire surrounded by black and red decorations. Guests enjoyed music by DJ Randy Main, Chrys Peterson served as mistress of ceremonies, remarks were given by Durant and Justin Moor, Area Office on Aging of Northwest Ohio CEO. The invocation was presented by Pearl Humphrey and live entertainment was provided by the KGB Band.

“TPS has been a great partner,” said Justin Moor. “People, no matter their age, but especially seniors need something to look forward to.”
