On Saturday, August 20, the tenth annual African American Male Wellness 5K Walk/Run started at the Warren AME Church at 9:30 a.m. but, as always, the walk was not the only important feature of this year’s event.
The annual event, organized by Brian Byrd, City of Toledo Safety Director and former chief of the Toledo Fire and Rescue Department, is a morning filled with health screenings, vendors and music.
Attendees had the opportunity to receive the COVID vaccines – Pfizer or Johnson and Johnson, HIV screenings, blood pressure and cholesterol screenings, mammograms and dental checkups, among the many health services offered.
This year’s sponsors included Mercy Hospital, ProMedica, the City of Toledo, 13abc, Care Source, Meijer, UTMC, Genentech, Safety N.E.S.T., AmeriHealth, Humana, Janssen, Johjson & Johnson, National African Americna Male Wellness Walk.
