State Senator Paula Hicks-Hudon’s third annual all-white party was held Saturday, August 9th by hosts Teresa Fedor and Joel Obrecht in their home in Bowling Green, Ohio. The party featured food, drinks, live music and a beautiful view overlooking Maumee River.
Community leaders, educators, union workers, public servants, friends and family supported the Senator’s annual fundraiser. Musician Calvin Hughes provided live music on keyboard.
Hicks-Hudson has proudly served the 11th District of Ohio since her election in 2022. During her time in office Hicks-Hudson has represented the people of northwest Ohio with initiatives ranging from urban farming to maternal health. The senator is up for reelection this November against Republican nominee James Nowak and Libertarian Kenneth Sharp.
“What I have really appreciated, as she has been Senator, is that she has been truly listening to her constituents, and not just listening, but hearing what they want,” stated former Ohio Senator Teresa Fedor. “And she’s not doing what she wants to do for them. She’s doing what they want her to do. And that’s really a public servant.”
She continued, “…And in today’s government, and in our country, you don’t have people doing things for people. Like universal healthcare, like universal preschool, like putting money in your pocket, not taking it out,” said Fedor.
“While everyone is focusing on the national news and what’s happening in Washington, the things that we do at the state affect you more so than at the federal government,” remarked Hicks-Hudson.
“Issues of SNAP benefits, public education and healthcare – those are administered at the state level, and what the majority are doing is making sure it’s harder and harder for average people to be able to live and exist,” she said. “So that’s why I’m running for reelection to be that voice for northwest Ohio. Because in Columbus, we don’t count. They don’t think we matter.”
The senator emphasized the importance of voting in this election and every election. “If your vote didn’t matter, there wouldn’t be all these things to make it harder to work for. People have to vote. It’s critical,” she stated.
