Burniece Chambers Celebrates a Century of Life, Travel and Family

Special to The Truth
Burniece Chambers was born on January 12, 1925, along with a twin, on City Park Avenue in Toledo, Ohio. Delivered by Dr. Harris, her sister Beatrice Potts arrived 15 minutes later. The twins attended Gunkle Elementary, Jones Junior High and Libbey High School.
Burniece began her career in cosmetology and proudly owned her own salon. Driven by a desire to do more, she returned to school and earned a teaching degree from Mary Manse College on Collingwood Boulevard, later obtaining a master’s degree from Bowling Green State University.
She went on to teach at Oakdale Elementary and Waite High School, retiring after 30 years of dedicated service.
A passionate world traveler, Burniece has visited every continent except Antarctica. Her global adventures include receiving a certificate for climbing the Great Wall of China, riding a camel through the Egyptian desert and visiting the Pyramids, sailing the Nile River, riding an elephant
in Thailand, going on an African safari, attending a bullfight in Mexico, bathing in the Dead Sea, and traveling from Moscow to St. Petersburg— where she attended a ballet performance and saw the finest ballerina of her life.
Burniece Chambers is celebrated not only for her remarkable life and accomplishments, but for the love, wisdom, and inspiration she has shared with generations of family, friends, students, and community members.
Burniece is not the only member of her family to achieve the century milestone.  Yes, her sister, Beatrice, is also very much alive and has resided in California for about 50 years. The two sisters chat several times daily.
