“Let the little children come to me,” said Bishop Marjorie Holt of Bethesda Christian Center on Sunday, June 09, as she quoted Matthew 19:14 and invited the little children, members of Artina McCabe’s family, to come forth for their Christening.
Artina McCabe took the occasion of her 60th birthday celebration to make sure the babies in her family, her grandchildren, were introduced to the church and to join her, the rest of the family and friends in a catered brunch following the service.
Sunday’s service opened with a Call to Worship, followed by a Praise and Worship and the Prayer. After the Scripture Reading and Affirmation, the congregation received the Proclamation of the Word. Then the babies were christened by Bishop Holt.
Artina McCabe was raised by her grandfather, Rev. Sidney Lawson, in a church environment which is one of the reasons she wanted to incorporate her faith into her big day of celebration of her 60th. Her husband is David McCabe. Her children are Artisha Lawson, Arnez Lawson, David McCabe II, Delano McCabe and Demetrie McCabe.
“I’ve been at Bethesda Christian Center since 1999,” said McCabe. “I’m a deacon at the church, I also work with the Youth Ministry and am part of the dance ministry.”
McCabe, a nurse who also works at the Lucas County board of Elections and is a tax preparer at Jackson Hewitt, decided she wanted to celebrate her birthday not only with her direct family but also with her church family. “Where else would a church girl spend her birthday?” she added.
Joining her at the service were her son, Demetrie; her nephew David Murdock; Tamia Patterson whom she used to babysit and the new generation in her family and the church family.
