On November 18, 2023, the Macomber-Whitney Alumni Association (MWAA) of Toledo, Ohio hosted its First Annual Thanksgiving Food Basket Give-Away. The endeavor was co-sponsored and supported by Meijer Inc., Taylor Automotive Family, Choices Behavioral Health Care of Toledo, Johnson’s Produce Market and Alafia Foundation of Hope International of Detroit, MI.
David Johnson, board chair of the MWAA and owner of Johnson’s Produce Market, located at 524 Pulaski, allowed the 100 Families who pre-registered for the Food Baskets to pick up their Thanksgiving Meals at the Market.
Included in the Food Baskets were turkeys, home-baked bread, fresh locally grown cabbage, onions, sweet-potatoes, and squash. Also stuffing, macaroni and cheese, corn, and cranberry sauce were included in the “fixins.”
Ms. D. Harris was among the individuals who were truly grateful to receive the Food Basket for her family. “I am so grateful to all of you for doing this. I know you didn’t have to do this,” she said. This sentiment was shared and expressed by many others.
