The sun did not shine on the annual African American Festival Parade this year … but the Parade proceeded as usual, and the spectators turned out to enjoy the spectacle.
But while the sun did not shine, the rain did stop just at 10 a.m. just as the Parade was getting underway – led by Toledo Urban Federal Credit Union CEP Suzette Cowell, Toledo Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz and Muddy. Since it was a rainy day, Muddy must have decided that his services were not needed at the ballpark.
Elected officials, school children, businesses and organizations were not discouraged by the unfavorable forecasts, however, and all went off as planned – starting at the TUFCU location at Door and Detroit and moving slowly down the Dorr Street route to the enjoyment of the spectators.
The afternoon activities – community day and concert – were forced inside and all went exceptionally well in spite of the rain.
Fortunately the Parade was able to stick to its planned route.
