Toledo City Council reappointed John Hobbs III and Vanice Williams to their council seats on Tuesday by a 12-0 vote. They will continue to represent District 1 and District 4, respectively, to fill the terms of former council members Tyrone Riley and Yvonne Harper, who resigned after they pled guilty to federal charges in December.
Hobbs and Williams, along with at-large Councilmembers Tiffany Preston Whitman and Cerssandra McPherson, took their seats on council in September 2020 to replace suspended members Riley, Harper, Larry Sykes and Gary Johnson. Whitman and McPherson won election to their at-large seats in November 2021. Hobbs and Williams will have the opportunity to win a general election to retain their seats November of this year.
The Council vote was necessary because Riley and Harper had officially resigned and the interim appointments for Hobbs and Williams had expired.
Council also named Carrie Hartman to the at-large seat vacated by Michele Grim, who won election to the Ohio House of Representatives in November.
All three new council members were sworn in after the votes to approve their appointments.
