The Toledo City Council recognized Neighborhood Health Association (NHA) for receiving national awards for the quality of their care. In 2023, NHA received awards from two national bodies: The American Heart Association and the Centers for Disease Control. The resolution, R-667-23, was presented by Councilwoman Tiffany Whitman.
NHA has received three American Heart Association outpatient program achievement awards in recognition for its commitment to reducing the risk of heart disease and stroke by improving high cholesterol, Type 2 diabetes and blood pressure management.
NHA has also received the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Million Hearts Hypertension Control Champions designation. Only 24 physicians and clinical practices in the U.S. received the designation in 2023.
Two NHA locations, Holland Health Care and Navarre Park Family Health Center, received the award, among only nine in Ohio.
The Million Hearts Hypertension Control Challenge is a program that recognizes clinicians, practices, and health systems that achieve hypertension control rates of at least 80%. Entrants share both verifiable patient data and insights on their successful strategies and best practices. The Champions’ stories are publicly shared to inspire other practices and health systems to improve hypertension control.
“We are proud to be recognized for our focus on Type 2 diabetes, cholesterol, high blood pressure management and care,” said Luke Mallory, director of quality improvement. “By participating in these programs, we are able to put the science of the latest clinical guidelines to work improving the lives of our patients.”
