MLK Day of Service at the Islamic Food Bank

Toledo Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. and Jems2Jewels Unite for
2026 MLK Day of Service at the Islamic Food Bank

The Toledo Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc., in partnership with Jems2Jewels, honored the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by participating in a Day of Service on Monday, January 19, 2026, at the Islamic Food Bank located at 1804 Monroe Street.

Each year, members of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. observe the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service as part of its national programming, encouraging families to transform the federal holiday into a meaningful opportunity to uplift their communities.

This year’s event continues that tradition with a collaborative service effort designed to support families experiencing food insecurity in the Toledo region.

The 2026 service project will bring together 50 participants from both
organizations, including children, teens, and families committed to Dr.
King’s vision of service, justice and collective responsibility.
Volunteers will assist with sorting donations, preparing food
distributions, and supporting operational needs at the Islamic Food Bank.

“Dr. King taught us that service is the foundation of community,” said Dr.
Tiffany Preston‑Whitman, EdD, legislative chair for the Toledo Chapter and event coordinator. “Our partnership with Jems2Jewels reflects our shared
commitment to empowering youth through hands-on service and ensuring they
understand the impact they can make when they show up for others.”

Tisha Mays, Program Coordinator for the Toledo Chapter, emphasized that the
event reinforces Jack and Jill’s mission to develop future leaders through
meaningful civic engagement and community action.
