Voters Are Opposed to Governmental Interference with Community Organizations

A recent survey sponsored by Freedom and Faith Defense Project sheds important light on what Ohio voters are thinking heading into the 2026 Senate race, and the results should be a wake-up call for Washington.

According to the survey, Ohio swing voters are increasingly skeptical of federal politicians trying to exert more control over local charities, ministries, and nonprofit groups. While 34 percent of Ohio swing voters believe these organizations could face more general regulation, nearly half, 47 percent, oppose President Trump and Republicans in Congress increasing federal control over them. Only 22 percent support it.

Even more concerning for voters is Washington’s recent behavior. The survey found that 60 percent of Ohio swing voters say the most troubling federal action is directing agencies to investigate and prosecute privately funded charities and religious organizations for allegedly supporting domestic terrorism, often without strong evidence or fair due process. Anyone who sees the work that churches and nonprofits do across Ohio knows how unfair and damaging this would be.

These groups support families struggling with food insecurity, assist with addiction recovery, run youth programs, and help keep communities stable. They shouldn’t have to fear being politically targeted.

One additional data point stands out: 73 percent of Ohio swing voters oppose any federal policy requiring banks to close accounts based on political or religious beliefs.

As 2026 approaches, Ohio voters are sending a clear message: protect our community organizations, don’t politicize or intimidate them.
