Ohio residents are NOT required to obtain a REAL ID-compliant ID. However, a federally accepted ID will be required starting May 7, 2025, if you need to:
- Board a domestic flight.
- Enter certain federal facilities.
- Enter nuclear power plants.
To get a REAL ID in Ohio, you’ll need to visit your local Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) office and provide*:
- Proof of full legal name, lawful presence, and birthdate. This may include your:
- U.S. passport.
- U.S. birth certificate.
- Certificate of Naturalization or Citizenship.
- Proof of social security. This may include your:
- Social security card.
- W-2 or 1099 form.
- Paystub.
- Proof of residency (2 documents required). This may include:
- A valid OH driver’s license or ID.
- Ohio vehicle title or registration.
- School transcript.
- Payment for the applicable fee.
