{"id":7661,"date":"2023-03-02T17:11:10","date_gmt":"2023-03-02T17:11:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wordpress.thetruthtoledo.com\/?p=7661"},"modified":"2023-03-02T17:11:10","modified_gmt":"2023-03-02T17:11:10","slug":"toledo-city-council-funds-50k-program-to-train-accredit-and-promote-lgbtq-affirming-health-care-providers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wordpress.thetruthtoledo.com\/index.php\/2023\/03\/02\/toledo-city-council-funds-50k-program-to-train-accredit-and-promote-lgbtq-affirming-health-care-providers\/","title":{"rendered":"Toledo City Council Funds $50k Program to Train, Accredit, and Promote LGBTQ+ Affirming Health Care Providers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>Special to The Truth<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Toledo City Council voted unanimously on Tuesday, February<br \/>\n7, 2023, to fund the three-year Affirmative and Inclusive LGBTQ+ Action<br \/>\nPlan created by Equality Toledo and Solace Health &amp; Wellness with a special<br \/>\nassist from members of the Equality Toledo NWO LGBTQ+ Coalition.<\/p>\n<p>LGBTQ+ community members and leaders began meeting in October 2021 and over<br \/>\nthe following year developed an action plan based on community members\u2019<br \/>\nlived experiences, concerns, and the lack of accessible and affirming<br \/>\nhealthcare resources.<\/p>\n<p>We are excited to see this important step in the right direction as these<br \/>\nfunds will help Equality Toledo and Solace Health &amp; Wellness perform the<br \/>\nfirst-ever health community needs assessment for LBGTQ+ people seeking<br \/>\nhealth care in Toledo.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSimilar to other marginalized communities, LGBTQ+ individuals are at risk<br \/>\nfor disparate health outcomes, experience discrimination, and are<br \/>\nstigmatized when seeking health care services. All people deserve to be<br \/>\ntreated with dignity and respect within our healthcare system. This<br \/>\ninitiative will train providers on evolving language and established<br \/>\nstandards of care and then provide a clear road map for access to affirming<br \/>\nproviders for our LGBTQ+ residents and families,\u201d says Erin Marten,<br \/>\nExecutive Director of Solace Health and Wellness and also a midwife and<br \/>\npublic health professional.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe look forward to these designated funds being utilized to not only<br \/>\nuplift the LGBTQ+ community but also begin to break down barriers that so<br \/>\nmany LGBTQ+ people experience\u201d according to Brent Rabie, Deputy Director of<br \/>\nEquality Toledo.<\/p>\n<p>More information on the action plan and this initiative will be available<br \/>\nat a later date.
