Jazmynn Abalos, 19, and Byron Buchanan, 20, first met at Bowsher High School when they were a freshman and a sophomore, respectively. They eventually developed a friendship and became boyfriend and girlfriend in 2021.<\/p>\n

When Bryon met Jazmynn she already had her first child, her daughter Jada.<\/p>\n

\u201cI knew if I wanted to make a relationship with her, I had to make a relationship with Jada as well\u2026 a commitment to her\u2026\u201d said Byron, \u201cIt\u2019s been a great experience with them\u2026 I love them both.\u201d<\/p>\n

In March 2022 the pair welcomed their own baby boy: D\u2019angelo. Since there is no other biological co-parent for Jada. Byron is father to both.<\/p>\n

Jazmynn and Byron joined Brothers and Sisters United together this year and Byron completed Brothers United as well.<\/p>\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t know much about being a parent,\u201d said Byron. \u201cShe\u2019s (Jazmynn\u2019s) been a great help.\u201d Jada is now five years old and D\u2019angelo, three months. While the two have a wonderful support system of family and friends, and each other, Pathway has provided additional support and fills in the gaps.<\/p>\n

Though the two may seem young to some, their outlook on life and perspective in their relationship is very mature. \u201cWe have our ups and downs\u2026 we make the best out of it,\u201d said Byron.<\/p>\n

Their relationship has presented its challenges.\u00a0 \u201cWalking into a relationship already with one kid [was challenging].\u201d Jazmynn said. Brothers United helped the most post-pregnancy. \u201c[Brother\u2019s United] helped the most during maternity leave,\u201d said Jazmynn \u201cHaving that time, even just to hear from other moms, helped balance.\u201d<\/p>\n

Brothers and Sisters United helped them improve communication in their relationship. \u201cWe were having problems in our relationship. Brother\u2019s United help us to fix our communication and try to get more time in with each other,\u201d said Jazmynn. Byron agreed \u201cit help us grow more between us and as parents as well.\u201d<\/p>\n

The pair work on their relationship themselves and their relationship for their children.\u00a0 \u201c[Bother\u2019s United] teaches you how to have a positive relationship \u2026 because that\u2019s what is best for the kids,\u201d said Jazmynn. \u201cIt\u2019s more than just being a better parent, it\u2019s becoming a better person as well.\u201d The Brothers United program would put them in scenarios in class that would challenge them and provide them with proper tools to solve them.<\/p>\n

Before Byron, Jazmynn was raising her child alone. She had to now learn how to co-parent with another person. Byron is learning every day how to be a father. The situation was new two to both and Pathway supplied them with a roadmap to navigate.<\/p>\n

Both believe the program should be known to more to people and that many people would benefit. \u201cIt was beneficial to me \u2013 it can be beneficial to anybody else,\u201d said Byron. Jazmynn recommended her Bowsher classmate, Trey Murrell. (See The Truth, June 15 issue).<\/p>\n

Today, Pathway stills check up on the pair with phone calls.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe biggest thing I learned is you\u2019re not alone,\u201d said Jazmynn, \u201cand there\u2019s help, you may have to go and look for it but there are people willing to help.\u201d<\/p>\n
