And the members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc, strive annually to make the season as wonderful as possible for even more families.<\/p>\n<p>Annually, the local alumnae chapter sorority members host a toy drive to bring joy to the children of Lucas County Children&#8217;s Services (LCCS) and recently, Family House. For more than a decade, they&#8217;ve collected thousands of toys to be given to children in need in our community.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Service is what we do and we would not be able to do our duties as a sorority if we did not help our community,&#8221; said Aleshia Furr, Joy of Giving committee chair.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3313 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/wordpress.thetruthtoledo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/delta2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"261\" height=\"193\" \/>Due to COVID-19 and the ongoing pandemic, the evening holiday celebration was cancelled for the second year in a row. However, service to the community does not cease. These times call for creativity!<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is an opportunity for the community to say, &#8216;hey, I can at least give something for someone else, as opposed to keeping it within themselves. We have to help others in order for us to succeed in life,&#8221; said Hall-Rollins<\/p>\n<p>This year&#8217;s drive was a drive-thru at Bowsher High School. On Saturday, December 4, Delta members collected toys to be donated to LCCS and Family House. The sorority emphasized the importance of donating African-American dolls for the Drive considering the scarcity of such items in stores.<\/p>\n<p>The chapter\u2019s goal is to donate 500 toys this year to area families.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Special to The Truth It\u2019s the most wonderful time of the year \u2026 for many families.
