The City of Toledo Prosecutor\u2019s Office has launched its new Prosecutor\u2019s Office Dashboard (https:\/\/toledo.prosecutiondata.org\/<\/a>), offering greater transparency into nearly 90,000 criminal and traffic cases prosecuted in Toledo Municipal Court and highlighting the impact of the office\u2019s Domestic Violence Prosecution Unit, which was implemented in 2023.<\/p>\n

The dashboard includes case data dating back to 2018 and allows the public to explore information by demographics, including gender, race and age, as well as offense level and type. It also provides information about how long cases take to reach disposition after they are filed.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis data dashboard makes information about the work we do, the cases we handle, and the public we serve more transparent and understandable for all,\u201d Rebecca Facey, chief prosecutor for the City of Toledo, said. \u201cWe want the community to have access to this information and a better understanding of the work we do in the Prosecutor\u2019s Office.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cTransparency and accountability are essential to maintaining public trust in the criminal legal system. Our work with the City Prosecutor\u2019s Office demonstrates how even a small team can drive meaningful change by prioritizing accountability, both internally and within the community, and how stronger data capacity can inform policy, improve practice, and support sound decision-making to strengthen operations,\u201d Jennifer Ferone, Deputy Research Director at CUNY ISLG, said.<\/p>\n

The dashboard also includes a data story focused on the Prosecutor\u2019s Office\u2019s Domestic Violence Prosecution Unit. The unit in its current form was implemented in 2023 with a focus on improving the effectiveness of domestic violence prosecutions while supporting survivors. The dashboard provides information about the unit\u2019s work, including convictions, how quickly cases are resolved and service to victims of domestic violence.<\/p>\n

The dashboard was developed in partnership with the Institute for State & Local Governance at the City University of New York (CUNY ISLG) (https:\/\/islg.cuny.edu\/<\/a>) and the Prosecutorial Performance Indicators team at the Loyola University Chicago Center for Criminal Justice Research (https:\/\/loyolaccj.org\/<\/a>). Toledo is one of three Great Lakes Prosecutorial Data Collaborative sites working to improve transparency and efficiency through stronger data collection and analysis.<\/p>\n
