{"id":20724,"date":"2026-09-10T23:02:55","date_gmt":"2026-09-10T23:02:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wordpress.thetruthtoledo.com\/?p=20724"},"modified":"2026-09-10T23:02:55","modified_gmt":"2026-09-10T23:02:55","slug":"new-works-writers-series-announces-our-voices-our-future","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wordpress.thetruthtoledo.com\/index.php\/2026\/09\/10\/new-works-writers-series-announces-our-voices-our-future\/","title":{"rendered":"New Works Writers Series Announces \u201cOur Voices, Our Future\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>Free two-day youth Spoken Word and Social-Emotional Learning intensive in Toledo<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Special to The Truth<\/em><\/p>\n<p>New Works Writers Series, an organization dedicated to preserving and celebrating artistic voice in Northwest Ohio since 1989, announces its upcoming youth initiative: \u201cOUR VOICES, OUR FUTURE.\u201d This free, two-day intensive workshop combines Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) with spoken word poetry and stagecraft for local youth, ages 12\u201318.<br \/>\nDesigned to empower young writers to express their personal truths and develop key social-emotional skills, the program guides participants through original creative writing, vocal mechanics, performance techniques, and live stage presentation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Program Schedule &amp; Location<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>* Day 1 (Writing &amp; SEL Workshop): Saturday, September 12, 2026; 10:00 AM \u2013 2:00 PM<br \/>\no Focus: Crafting original poetry, emotional reframing, and exploring personal agency and resilience.<br \/>\n* Day 2 (Rehearsal &amp; Showcase): Saturday, September 19, 2026; 3:00 PM \u2013 7:30 PM<br \/>\no Focus: Stagecraft, microphone technique, overcoming stage anxiety, and a live 6:30 PM community showcase for parents, board members, and neighbors.<br \/>\n* Location: New Works Community Stage<\/p>\n<p><strong>Workshop Highlights<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>* Self-Awareness &amp; Resilience: Participants learn to turn personal experiences, challenges, and aspirations into impactful spoken word poetry.<br \/>\n* Master Class in Stagecraft: Hands-on instruction covering breath control, projection, microphone technique, and public speaking confidence.<br \/>\n* Community Showcase: Youth gain the opportunity to perform their original work live on stage before family, supporters, and community leaders.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Registration Details<\/strong><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><br \/>\nParticipation is FREE, but space is limited to 20 youth participants to ensure individualized guidance.
