For more than a decade, Avis Denise Files has been a transformative force
\nin advancing fatherhood, family stability and community engagement
\nthroughout Toledo and Lucas County.<\/p>\n

During her 10-year tenure as director of Family and Supportive Services at
\nPathway Inc., Files helped develop, expand and sustain innovative programs
\nfocused on healthy relationships, responsible fatherhood, youth
\ndevelopment, co-parenting and healing-centered family support. Her
\nleadership has impacted countless fathers, mothers, youth and families
\nwhile helping reshape how the community engages fathers as essential
\npartners in family well-being.<\/p>\n

Known for combining vision, strategy, collaboration and systems thinking,
\nFiles has spent years building sustainable models, strengthening
\npartnerships, securing transformative funding and creating pathways for
\nfathers to become more engaged in the lives of their children and families.<\/p>\n

In addition to her leadership and program development work, Files has
\nbecome a sought-after trainer, facilitator, speaker and subject matter
\nexpert in the fields of Healthy Marriage, Responsible Fatherhood, family
\nengagement and organizational development. Throughout her career, she has
\ntrained professionals, facilitated workshops, presented at local and
\nnational conferences and provided technical assistance to organizations
\nseeking to strengthen outcomes for fathers, families and communities.<\/p>\n

Among her many accomplishments are:<\/p>\n

\u2022 Serving three years as Chair of the Lucas County Fatherhood Coalition<\/p>\n

\u2022 Developing the Brothers United Fatherhood Coalition<\/p>\n

\u2022 Helping design, implement and lead a nationally recognized Healthy
\nMarriage and Responsible Fatherhood program model serving young Black
\nfathers ages 20\u201324<\/p>\n

\u2022 Leading, alongside a team of professionals, the implementation of the
\nprogram model from 2015\u20132020<\/p>\n

\u2022 Completing a gold-standard Randomized Control Trial evaluating outcomes
\namong young Black fathers<\/p>\n

\u2022 Helping secure approximately $1.25 million annually over five years to
\nsustain and expand fatherhood programming<\/p>\n

\u2022 Building a highly recognized fatherhood program model with strong
\ncommunity partnerships and long-term sustainability<\/p>\n

Files reflects on her work with pride, gratitude and confidence in what
\nhas been built.<\/p>\n

\u201cI believe the foundation has been laid,\u201d she said. \u201cTen years of
\nrelationship-building, program development, community trustand systems
\nwork created something sustainable that can continue serving fathers and
\nfamilies for years to come.\u201d<\/p>\n

She also expressed appreciation for Pathway Inc. and the opportunities the
\norganization provided throughout her leadership journey.<\/p>\n

As the designated Community Action Agency for Lucas County, Pathway Inc.
\nhas played a critical role in addressing poverty, strengthening families
\nand supporting underserved communities. Files credits the organization with
\ncreating an environment where innovative fatherhood and family-centered
\ninitiatives were able to grow, evolve and become respected locally and
\nnationally.<\/p>\n

Under her leadership, several additional family-strengthening initiatives
\nwere developed, including:<\/p>\n

\u2022 Sisters United (2020)<\/p>\n

\u2022 BYOUth and SYOUth Healthy Relationship Programs for youth ages 12\u201317
\n(2021)<\/p>\n

\u2022 Brothers and Sisters United Co-Parenting Program (2021)<\/p>\n

Between 2020 and 2025, Files and her grant-writing team successfully
\nsecured more than $5 million in grant funding to support program expansion,
\nstaffing, direct services and long-term sustainability efforts benefiting
\nfamilies throughout the community.<\/p>\n

Building upon years of experience as a respected trainer, facilitator,
\nspeaker and practitioner, Files is now entering a new chapter as an
\nOFA-approved Healthy Marriage and Responsible Fatherhood expert and
\nconsultant with Manhattan Strategy Group. In this national role, she
\nprovides technical assistance, strategic planning, training, workshop
\nfacilitation and organizational consultation to federally funded programs
\nacross the country.<\/p>\n

According to Manhattan Strategy Group, Files is recognized as a highly
\nrespected consultant with specialized expertise in Healthy Marriage and
\nResponsible Fatherhood programming, helping organizations strengthen
\noperations, improve participant engagement, navigate federal requirements
\nand build sustainable systems that create measurable outcomes for fathers,
\nfamilies and communities.<\/p>\n

Today, her work has evolved beyond operating programs. She is increasingly
\nfocused on changing systems\u2014helping organizations, agencies and
\ncommunities rethink how fathers are engaged and included in conversations
\nsurrounding family stability, infant health, child welfare and community
\nwell-being.<\/p>\n

While her professional reach continues to expand nationally, Files remains
\ndeeply committed to local impact.<\/p>\n

Through Rise Above Foundation for Families, she will continue advancing
\nwork focused on fatherhood, child welfare, maternal and infant health,
\nfamily healing and community empowerment. She will also continue serving
\nas Outreach Coordinator at First Church of God, maintaining strong
\nconnections to faith-based engagement and community service.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat once began as direct service work has evolved into a larger mission,\u201d
\nFiles said. \u201cThis is not simply a career transition. It is an expansion of
\npurpose. I believe fathers matter, families matter and communities heal
\nwhen we intentionally invest in both.\u201d<\/p>\n

Her personal motto remains the same:<\/p>\n

\u201cChange a FATHER Change a FAMILY. Create a FUTURE.\u201d<\/p>\n

As she continues to expand her impact from Toledo to communities across the
\nnation, one thing remains clear: Avis Denise Files is not leaving the
\nwork\u2014she is expanding its reach.<\/p>\n

\nand speaker, Files is demonstrating what it means to move from local impact
