The flag raising honors Juneteenth and launches a series of city-wide events recognizing the contributions of Black Americans and commemorating the emancipation of those who had been enslaved.<\/p>\n<p>Juneteenth is a day marked with celebrations, guest speakers, picnics and family gatherings that recognize the 19th of June as the day of emancipation of enslaved people.
