TOLEDO, OH – The City of Toledo invites the community to take part in The Juneteenth Experience \u2014 a weeklong celebration from June 13 through June 21 that honors and celebrates Black excellence and freedom.<\/p>\nTOLEDO, OH – The City of Toledo invites the community to take part in The Juneteenth Experience \u2014 a weeklong celebration from June 13 through June 21 that honors and celebrates Black excellence and freedom.<\/p>\n
The celebration kicks off with the Pan-African flag raising on Friday, June 13, at 10 a.m. at the flagpole on the median of Jackson St. in front of One Government Center. The flag raising honors Juneteenth and launches a series of city-wide events recognizing the contributions of Black Americans and commemorating the emancipation of those who had been enslaved.<\/p>\n
Juneteenth is a day marked with celebrations, guest speakers, picnics and family gatherings that recognize the 19th of June as the day of emancipation of enslaved people. It is also a time for reflection, rejoicing and planning for the future.<\/p>\n
