Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. celebration Monday, January 20. This year\u2019s theme \u201cBuilding Bridges and Breaking Bread\u201d emphasized unity, reflection, and service while honoring Dr. King\u2019s enduring legacy.<\/p>\n<p>The virtual event was broadcast on the City of Toledo&#8217;s Facebook,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bcanarts.com\/\">BCAN<\/a>, and the University of Toledo&#8217;s website, and featured speakers:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Lelia Harris<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Founder of Lelia\u2019s Promise<\/li>\n<li><strong>Skylar Howard<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 UToledo Undergraduate<\/li>\n<li><strong>Alexander Raby<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Student, Horizon Science Academy<\/li>\n<li><strong>Bryson Foster<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013\u00a0UToledo CCP and Early College Student<\/li>\n<li><strong>Kylah Griffin<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Social Work Student, University of Toledo<\/li>\n<li><strong>Monita Mungo, PhD<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Associate Professor of Sociology, University of Toledo<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The video also features remarks from Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz, Councilmember Brittany Jones, UT Interim President Schroeder, Chair of The Human Relations Commission Erin Baker and other community leaders.<\/p>\n<p>The master of ceremonies for the event was Gerald Harris \u00a0of 13ABC News. Performances were given by Friendship Baptist Church Choir, Tahyah\u2019s Dance Studio and JP Dynasty.<\/p>\n<p>The University of Toledo awarded seven 2025 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarships to the following students:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>S&#8217;Mya Jones<\/li>\n<li>Jacob Moore<\/li>\n<li>Kierra Pope<\/li>\n<li>Addison Potkanowicz<\/li>\n<li>Makayla Roberts<\/li>\n<li>Syncere Scurles<\/li>\n<li>Walker Zulch<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The public was invited to join local officials, neighbors, and friends for a special\u00a0in-person viewing party\u00a0of the virtual celebration at the Imagination Station.
