St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church held its annual church picnic and bookbag give away Saturday August 24th<\/sup>. The church gave away over 50 bookbags to school children and provided food, fun and games for the children and the congregation.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe do this every year because it is an incentive for the children to want to be in school,\u201d stated Rev. James H. Willis Sr, DMin, senior pastor of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, \u201cIt\u2019s the churches position to try to reach out to families.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cBookbags are small however it speaks a lot of volume when we are trying to help a child understand that an education is important. We as a church try to do what we can to help them be successful,\u201d he continued. \u201cIt\u2019s still up to the parents. I want to say thanks to the parents that came today. The church can do so much. This is our portion and we\u2019re just grateful that God allowed us to do this.\u201d<\/p>\n

The bookbags were donated by the University of Toledo Office of Community and Strategic Partnerships.<\/p>\n

St. Paul is hosting the Annual Women\u2019s Day September 15. The theme is \u201cThe Transformative Power of a Woman\u2019s Voice\u201d using scriptures from Psalms 141:3; Proverbs 18:21 and Ephesians 4:29. The speaker will be Barbie Harriston, Associate Minister of United Missionary Baptist Church. This year\u2019s colors are white accented with shades blue.<\/p>\n
