The African American Wellness Agency and Toledo-based volunteers organized a Black wellness event on Saturday, August 17, 2024 at Jesup W. Scott High School. Participants received a warm welcome and access to plenty of resources.<\/p>\n

\u201cGood morning everyone,\u201d said Natalye Donnally, vice president of the African American Wellness Agency. \u201cLet\u2019s take control of your health today.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe health of Black men is very important in our communities and this country,\u201d said Joe Patterson, Scott Hub Director. \u201cWe as Black men look after everyone else, we need to take care of ourselves, so we can continue to provide for our families and lead the community.\u201d<\/p>\n

There were activities geared towards improving the physical health, mental wellbeing and wellness of Toledo\u2019s Black men. The parking lot, football area and gym filled with Black men including men from the Divine Nine fraternities.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs Black men, we must demonstrate through our actions, that our health is important,\u201d said William Hayes, Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc., Toledo Chapter Polaris. \u201cWe know that Black men\u2019s health and wellness is important, to ourselves, our families and our community.<\/p>\n

\u201cBlack men\u2019s health is one of our fraternity mandates,\u201d said Keith Jordan, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., Toledo Chapter president. \u201cWe must be present to hear and share the knowledge on how to improve our health.\u201d<\/p>\n

The activities included: 5K walk and run, health screenings and community resources.<\/p>\n

The African American Wellness Agency\u2019s goal is to close the gap and impact Black men\u2019s lives. Carnel Smith, EdD served as honorary chairman. Johnson & Johnson, Genentech, CareSource, Janssen, Juice 107.3 fm, Mercy Health, 13abc news and Scott High School were sponsors.<\/p>\n
