{"id":6467,"date":"2022-10-13T14:45:58","date_gmt":"2022-10-13T14:45:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wordpress.thetruthtoledo.com\/?p=6467"},"modified":"2022-10-13T14:46:55","modified_gmt":"2022-10-13T14:46:55","slug":"nan-whaley-comes-to-toledo-to-explain-her-one-good-job-pledge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/wordpress.thetruthtoledo.com\/index.php\/2022\/10\/13\/nan-whaley-comes-to-toledo-to-explain-her-one-good-job-pledge\/","title":{"rendered":"Nan Whaley Comes to Toledo to Explain Her One Good Job Pledge"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_6468\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6468\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-6468\" src=\"http:\/\/wordpress.thetruthtoledo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Nan-Whaley-explains-One-Good-Job-Pledge.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-6468\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Nan Whaley explains One Good Job Pledge<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><em><strong>By Fletcher Word<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<em><strong>The Truth Editor<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Democratic candidate for governor, Nan Whaley stopped by IBEW Local 245 in Rossford on Monday, with Toledo Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz by her side, to tout her \u201cOne Good Job Pledge,\u201d a plan to increase Ohio\u2019s workforce through training and union apprenticeships.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur administration will give you access to training and good paying union jobs through our \u2018One Good Job Pledge,\u201d said Whaley, former mayor of Dayton, as she opened her remarks flanked by leaders of the IBEW Local.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you are willing to get your hands dirty, we are going to put you to work fixing our roads, bridges, replacing lead pipes and expanding broadband,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p>Whaley was introduced on Monday by Kapszikiewicz who used his time at the microphone to excoriate Gov. Mike DeWine and his fellow Republicans for their part in allowing Ohio to deteriorate in so many categories over the last decade in particular.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNan Whaley was born in 1976,\u201d said the Toledo mayor, \u201cthe same year Mike DeWine was first elected to public office. He has been in public office for her entire life. It\u2019s a perfect example of the status quo. If you\u2019re happy with the way things are going, he\u2019s your candidate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kapszukiewicz is clearly not happy with the way things are going. \u201cEverything in our state is trending the wrong way \u2013 we are last in all the categories you want to be first in and first in all the categories you want to be last in.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He noted that the state is near the bottom of the U.S. in areas such as population lost, the unemployment rate, life expectancy, educational attainment. \u201cOn everything we are trending the wrong way and, according to the FBI, we have the most corrupt state government in the USA.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_6469\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6469\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-6469\" src=\"http:\/\/wordpress.thetruthtoledo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Gubernatorial-Candidate-Nan-Whaley-center-and-Toledo-Mayor-Wade-Kapszukiewicz-flanked-by-IBEW-representatives.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"245\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-6469\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Gubernatorial Candidate Nan Whaley, center, and Toledo Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz, flanked by IBEW representatives<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Whaley, said Kapszukiewicz, can move the state in a different direction.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf Ohioans want a change, she\u2019s the only person on the ballot who can provide that change,\u201d he said of her platform and her \u201cOne Good Job Pledge.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Whaley opened her address by continuing that criticism of DeWine and the majority Republican General Assembly. She noted that the current administration was fixated on big ribbon cutting ceremonies in the Columbus area while ignoring other communities around the state such as Toledo and Dayton.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are going to give every Ohioan a chance to do meaningful work in their community,\u201d said Whaley. \u201cIt\u2019s vital that Ohioans take innovative steps and set up our state for success.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Whaley explained that her program will \u201ctake real action to fill the gap between the number of jobs available and the workers.\u201d She noted that the bipartisan federal infrastructure bill had provided funding for projects but Ohio doesn\u2019t have the workforce to undertake such jobs<\/p>\n<p>In fact, there are not enough workers in the state, said Whaley, for the Intel construction project in the Columbus area and workers will have to be brought in from other states.<\/p>\n<p>To start, under the Whaley plan, the state will place $65 million into apprenticeship readiness programs around Ohio. That will prepare workers all around the state for union apprenticeships.
