This is a big win for Toledo.<\/p>\n
The City of Toledo has officially secured a $20 million RAISE grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation to support our $57 million Connecting Toledo Neighborhoods to Opportunity project in Uptown, the area we are calling Toledo\u2019s Social Innovation District.<\/p>\n
The grant was originally awarded in 2023, and following a federal review under updated grant guidelines, we can now move forward with this transformational project. Construction is expected to begin in 2027.<\/p>\n
And this is a big project. We are talking about infrastructure improvements across 38 city blocks in the heart of Uptown.<\/p>\n
The project will reconstruct or resurface 6.5 lane miles of roadway, install new water and sanitary lines, improve pedestrian safety, add new street trees and lighting, and make major improvements to the way people walk, bike and move through the neighborhood. The project will also help better connect Uptown with the Junction neighborhood.<\/p>\n
But the goal is about more than rebuilding streets. We are investing in the future of Uptown and creating the infrastructure needed to attract new private investment, create jobs and connect more Toledoans to opportunity.<\/p>\n
Uptown is already becoming an important part of Toledo\u2019s economic future, and this project will help us build on that momentum. By making this area safer, more connected and more attractive for investment, we can create the conditions for the kind of development that will benefit Toledo for decades to come.<\/p>\n
I want to thank Senator Bernie Moreno, Senator Jon Husted and Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur for standing with Toledo and fighting for this project every step of the way. Their support helped make sure this important federal investment comes home to Toledo.<\/p>\n
