The City of Toledo and Al Peake & Sons Food Service are partnering to launch the Swayne Field Pop-Up Produce Market, a pilot program designed to increase access to affordable, nutritious food for residents at the Swayne Field redevelopment site.<\/p>\n
The market will launch on September 4 and 5 and will operate every Saturday following from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. through Oct. 24 at the corner of Monroe Street and Detroit Avenue.<\/p>\n

Residents will also be able to purchase a variety of fresh produce at the weekly market, including seasonal Ohio- and Michigan-grown products, herbs, leafy greens, tomatoes, apples, berries, melons, and other healthy food options. Additional grocery staples may be added based on customer demand.<\/p>\n
“The Swayne Field Pop-Up Produce Market will give residents in a food desert greater access to affordable, nutritious food in a welcoming setting close to home,” Rosalyn Clemens, chief of housing and neighborhood sustainability, said. “This is the revitalization work we want to be doing in our NRSA neighborhoods, ensuring residents have access to the resources they need to be healthy and well.”<\/p>\n
The pilot program is part of a broader effort to increase access to affordable, nutritious food, support local and regional growers, strengthen neighborhood connections and activate the Swayne Field redevelopment site.<\/p>\n
Al Peake & Sons, a Toledo-based food distributor with more than 75 years of experience, will oversee market operations, including produce sourcing, transportation, staffing and food safety.<\/p>\n
