{"id":20085,"date":"2026-07-16T15:59:42","date_gmt":"2026-07-16T15:59:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wordpress.thetruthtoledo.com\/?p=20085"},"modified":"2026-07-16T15:59:42","modified_gmt":"2026-07-16T15:59:42","slug":"the-toledo-urban-federal-credit-unions-matched-savings-initiative-and-upcoming-festival","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/wordpress.thetruthtoledo.com\/index.php\/2026\/07\/16\/the-toledo-urban-federal-credit-unions-matched-savings-initiative-and-upcoming-festival\/","title":{"rendered":"The Toledo Urban Federal Credit Union\u2019s Matched Savings Initiative and Upcoming Festival"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-20086 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/wordpress.thetruthtoledo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/IMG_6507-300x144.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"144\" srcset=\"http:\/\/wordpress.thetruthtoledo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/IMG_6507-300x144.jpg 300w, http:\/\/wordpress.thetruthtoledo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/IMG_6507-370x178.jpg 370w, http:\/\/wordpress.thetruthtoledo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/IMG_6507.jpg 700w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Fletcher Word<\/em><br \/>\n<em>The Truth Editor<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The Toledo Urban Federal Credit Union, as it approaches its 30th anniversary of service to the Toledo community and its 21<sup>st<\/sup> annual African American Festival and Parade, held a press conference to announce the first group of individuals who have benefited from the financial institution\u2019s Building Better Futures Matched Savings Initiative and also to release details of the 21<sup>st<\/sup> annual African American Festival.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a special day,\u201d\u00a0 said TUFCU\u2019s LaToya Morgan, during a press conference on Wednesday, July 8. \u201cWe are here to celebrate the heart of our mission \u2013 helping people build better futures.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Thirty individuals participated in the Match Savings Program in order to receive matching funds to achieve their homeownership goals, to expand or improve their businesses or, for the youngsters, to put aside money for the future.<\/p>\n<p>This initial group saved a total of $17,000 and the Toledo Urban Federal Credit Union has set aside $40,000\u00a0 to match the savings through grants received from Inclusiv Build and Save Matched Savings program.<\/p>\n<p>Inclusiv is a national network of more than 500 credit unions whose goal is to help low-to-moderate-income families and communities achieve financial independence. The Build and Save Matched Savings initiative provides technical assistance and subgrants to help its member credit unions strengthen existing or launch new matched savings programs.<\/p>\n<p>The recipients also attended workshops in financial counseling and wellness \u2013 workshops that are open to all, by the way.
