Only a few months after Toledo Urban Federal Credit Union\u2019s ATM was stolen from the credit union\u2019s Monroe Street branch, the Dorr Street location has suffered its own hit \u2026 a direct hit by a car which lost control during the middle of the night, April 6 around 5 a.m., as it sped down Dorr Street.
\nThe car hit the curb and went airborne crashing into the side of the building and an electric panel. Gas and water lines were hit causing not only outer building damage but also extensive flooding within the building and parking lot. About a half foot of water cascaded through the financial institution which will require extensive wall repair and a thorough review of records and paperwork that were in the building and on the floor, said Suzette Cowell, CEO and president of TUFCU.
\nHowever, while this might seem to be a streak of bad luck for Toledo Urban \u2013 an ATM machine stolen at one location, and a building put out of service at another \u2013 Cowell and Board Chair Bishop Pat McKinstry have another take on the turn of events. The Monroe Street branch has been open for just over a year and Cowell and McKinstry feel blessed that Toledo Urban has been so fortunate that the second branch will allow business to continue both for their members\u2019 sake and for the employees who will continue working.
\n\"\"The Dorr Street location has sustained an amount of damage that will take around three months to repair but Cowell marvels at the response of the area\u2019s safety forces \u2013 Toledo Police Department, Lucas County Sheriffs and, particularly, the Toledo Fire and
\nRescue Department.
\nFire fighters stepped in not only to contain the damage to the building but also to preserve the credit union\u2019s records. \u201cWe got you,\u201d they told Cowell as they worked quickly to move boxes and vulnerable records out of harm\u2019s way and minimize the destruction.
