This Black History Month, Toledo\u2019s African American community invites everyone to honor the profound cultural and historical significance of the Dorr Street Business District. Once a vibrant center of life and commerce, the district stands as a testament to the culture, the resilience of a community, and the limitless potential of those who live, work, and raised families in the surrounding neighborhoods.<\/p>\n
In collaboration with the Toledo Plan Commission, The African American Legacy Project is dedicated to revitalizing the district by bridging neighborhoods, addressing the needs of historically underserved residents, and fostering partnerships with diverse stakeholders. The aim is to set the stage for innovative development and growth strategies that reflect the strength and unity of the community.<\/p>\n
This year\u2019s celebration theme, \u201cWe are One,\u201d emphasizes the collective strength derived from shared experiences and the importance of embracing and uplifting one another.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is a unique opportunity for our city to work together and contribute to a transformational moment that will elevate our community and change lives,\u201d said Dr. LaRome Myrick, African American Legacy Project board member.<\/p>\n
Throughout February, the African American Legacy Project, alongside current and former residents of the Dorr Street area, will host a series of events designed to highlight the district\u2019s legacy and lay the groundwork for future community engagement and development efforts.<\/p>\n
The month-long celebration will include a \u201cKid\u2019s Visioning Session\u201d and a \u201cSmall Business Forum\u201d among other events.<\/p>\n
