This program aims to equip children with<br \/>\nessential water safety skills, thanks to the generosity and support of local organizations.<\/p>\n<p>Todd Deem, principal at Waite High School and East Y Board Member, played a critical role in the development and implementation of this program within TPS schools. \u201cThis program is a game-changer for our community,\u201d said Deem. \u201cIt\u2019s about creating opportunities for children to gain life-saving skills while also fostering a love for swimming and confidence in the water.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Community Partners Step Up to Support Youth Safety<\/strong><br \/>\nThe program\u2019s success is made possible through the dedication and generosity of several organizations:<\/p>\n<p>ProMedica Bay Park Hospital Foundation and Toledo Refining Company: \u00a0 \u00a0Contributions will provide funding for transportation, ensuring students\u00a0can safely travel to and from swim lessons.<\/p>\n<p>ProMedica, Will Yenrick Vice President of Operations and Eastern Community YMCA Board Member\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 &#8211;<\/p>\n<p>Cenovus Toledo Refinery: Funding the YMCA\u2019s Safety Around Water Program, which offers vital water safety education.<\/p>\n<p>Mercy Health \u2013 St. Charles Hospital: Donating towels and swim bags for all participating children.<\/p>\n<p>St. Charles Mercy Health Auxiliary and Mission Services Program:<br \/>\nProviding swimsuits for children in need, ensuring every child is equipped to participate fully.<\/p>\n<p>St. Charles, Craig Albers President and Eastern Community YMCA Board Member<\/p>\n<p><strong>A Collaborative Approach to Water Safety<\/strong><br \/>\nThe program begins with an in-classroom safety talk at each school,<br \/>\nfollowed by three 45-minute swim lessons at the Eastern Community YMCA in<br \/>\nOregon, Ohio. This hands-on approach allows students to learn critical<br \/>\nsafety skills and gain confidence in the water.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are thrilled to begin this program with Oakdale Elementary,\u201d said Dr.<br \/>\nRobert Yenrick, Principal of Oakdale Elementary School. \u201cThis partnership<br \/>\nrepresents the best of what our community can achieve when we come together<br \/>\nfor our children\u2019s future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The program will also serve five additional TPS elementary schools: Raymer,<br \/>\nBirmingham, East Broadway, Garfield, and Navarre.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis initiative goes beyond teaching swimming skills,\u201d said Beth<br \/>\nKonczal, Executive<br \/>\nDirector of the Eastern Community YMCA. \u201cIt\u2019s about ensuring every child<br \/>\nhas access to critical safety education and the tools they need to thrive<br \/>\nin and around water. With Lake Erie right in our backyard, this program is<br \/>\nessential to meeting the needs of our community. Over the past two years,<br \/>\nthe Eastern Community YMCA branch and board have worked tirelessly to make<br \/>\nthis vision a reality, already serving over 900 students from the Oregon<br \/>\nCity School District and Cardinal Stritch. We are deeply grateful to our<br \/>\ncommunity partners for their generosity and commitment to this mission.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Making a Difference in Lives of Children<br \/>\nThe YMCA\u2019s Safety Around Water Program is designed to reduce the risk of<br \/>\ndrowning, increase water safety awareness, and instill confidence in<br \/>\nchildren.
