{"id":13398,"date":"2024-08-29T15:58:27","date_gmt":"2024-08-29T15:58:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wordpress.thetruthtoledo.com\/?p=13398"},"modified":"2024-08-29T15:58:27","modified_gmt":"2024-08-29T15:58:27","slug":"toledo-lucas-county-port-authority-kick-off-levy-renewal-request","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/wordpress.thetruthtoledo.com\/index.php\/2024\/08\/29\/toledo-lucas-county-port-authority-kick-off-levy-renewal-request\/","title":{"rendered":"Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority Kick Off Levy Renewal Request"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_13399\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-13399\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-13399\" src=\"http:\/\/wordpress.thetruthtoledo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/Thomas-Winston-TLCPA-CEO-speaks-as-Mayor-Tim-Pedro-of-Waterville-LC-Commissioner-Anita-Lopez-Robin-Whitney-TLCPA-chair-and-Wendy-Gramza-Chamber-CEO-listen.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"206\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-13399\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Thomas Winston, TLCPA CEO, speaks as Mayor Tim Pedro of Waterville, LC Commissioner Anita Lopez, Robin Whitney TLCPA chair and Wendy Gramza, Chamber CEO listen<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><em><strong>The Truth Staff<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe purpose of the Port Authority is to drive economic development for our region,\u201d said Thomas Winston, president and CEO of the Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority on Thursday, August 22, as he led off a press conference at Ironville Terminal designed to explain why this election cycle\u2019s Port Authority\u2019s levy renewal request is important to the economy of the region.<\/p>\n<p>The Port Authority invests in a number of huge projects \u2013 investments, said Winston, that have been leveraged to bring in hundreds of missions of dollars worth of funds for capital projects.<\/p>\n<p>Winston noted that the Port Authority\u2019s seaport and airport operations fund 11,000 jobs and have an economic impact of a combined $1.5 billion in the northwest Ohio area.<\/p>\n<p>However, the levy renewal, said the speakers at last week\u2019s press conference, is geared to work for the benefit of local small organizations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is so much good work happening in our community \u2013 big and small,\u201d said Robin Whitney, the Port Authority board chair. \u201cThere are amazing non profits in our community that are doing good work every day. This levy helps to support economic development initiatives that really help.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Whitney added that as much as the Port loves the big projects, such as the Cleveland Cliffs project at the site of the Ironville Terminal, \u201cwe also love the fact that we can help these smaller projects.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe believe in building the community one business at a time,\u201d said Wendy Gramza, president and CEO of the Toledo Regional Chamber of Commerce which has endorsed the November levy.<\/p>\n<p>The Port\u2019s levy request is a renewal 0.4 mill collected on real estate.
