The people \u2013 the audience \u2013 and the music come together to make an atmosphere to make <em>the collective.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>So, there is no membership.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou just come and see it and experience it,\u201d he said. \u201cAdmission is always free.\u201dAndre Wright, drummer, and Toledo native, who has played for national icons such as Martha Reeves and Branford Marsalis, relocated to Toledo and saw a lack in the jazz scene.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I came back to Toledo there was really nothing going on \u2026 Jonanthan said man you got to start something\u2026\u201d he remarked.<\/p>\n<p>He reached out to Jonathan Turner, 40+ year radio veteran and current station manager and music director for WXTS Jazz 88.3 (Scott High School Jazz Station). Turner is the host of the Jazz Collective at the Peacock every Thursday which is taped by BCAN (Buckeye Cable Art Network) and broadcasts on Sundays.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_10749\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10749\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-10749\" src=\"http:\/\/wordpress.thetruthtoledo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/Lori-Lefevre-sings-at-the-Jazz-Collective-December-7.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"180\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-10749\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Lori Lefevre sings at the Jazz Collective\u00a0December 7<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cEverybody loves the music\u2026 the music is poppin\u2019\u2026 but the <em>scene<\/em> is not there,\u201d continued Wright. \u201cSo, we want to make a healthy scene so that the young people can really come and really see the music and <em>feel<\/em> the music because that\u2019s what we\u2019re after.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt started in April and it\u2019s been rolling ever since and it\u2019s not going to stop,\u201d said Wright.Jazz isn\u2019t new to The Peacock.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[The Peacock] has been here since 1937 and it\u2019s always had music- a wide variety of blues, jazz and R&amp;B acts \u2013 they have graced the stage here,\u201d stated Turner. \u201cThis place has gone through different renovations\u2026 but it\u2019s still standing here in 2023.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Currently the club is Black-owned and operated by the Gabriel family.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s the place where Murphy and Claude Black started, <em>before<\/em> Murphy\u2019s opened. As well as the starting place for jazz musician Johnny O\u2019Neal, the two shared.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-10750 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/wordpress.thetruthtoledo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/index-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"201\" \/>Thursday\u2019s Jazz Collective has created a scene that is attracting audiences from Toledo, Detroit, Columbus, Cleveland and more, ushering in a jazz revival.<\/p>\n<p>Fridays and Saturdays there are national acts and regional acts for a small cost and Jam Sessions on Sundays. In January they plan to expand to provide even bigger acts.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want from students to everybody else \u2013 let them see the music. We bring in national, local and regional acts. Jon and I are in touch with everyone. We\u2019ve brought some famous people here,\u201d said Wright. \u201cEverybody wants to be apart, BCAN just wants to capture the footage because our artist we bring in you just can\u2019t see them everywhere <em>for free.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s been going well it has not skipped a week where we haven\u2019t had entertainment. We have entertainment here every Thursday.
