Special to The Truth
The National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women’s Club, Inc. Maumee Bay Club hosted a Health Fair on Saturday, October 25, 2025. This event was free and open to the public.
The mission of the NANBPWC is educating and empowering women through advocacy, mentoring and programming. This program is an example of “Supporting Women In More Ways Than One”.
This event was held at Wayman Palmer YMCA from 10 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The Mercy Health Mobile Mammography unit was be there to provide mammograms.
The available services included: mobile mammogram unit; blood pressure checks; blood sugar checks; heart rate checks; mobile dental screenings; video on Triple Negative Breast Cancer; line dancing (for heart health); other community vendors sharing information on women’s health.
There were over 150 bras given away, as well as bra measurements.
The National Health Program focus for the event was: Triple the Pink (Triple Negative Breast Cancer Awareness) – Triple negative breast cancer occurs in up to 20 percent of diagnosed breast cancers and is more likely to affect younger people in the African American population.
Triple negative breast cancer can be more aggressive and more difficult to treat and is more likely to spread and recur. It is the NANBPWC’s objective to educate minority populations about this disease and its effect on our people.
Heart disease is the number one killer of American women. One in three women dies of heart disease. For African American women, the risk of heart disease is especially great. Heart disease is more prevalent among Black women than white women—as are some of the factors that increase the risk of developing it, including high blood pressure, overweight, and diabetes.
